IPL and India’s Unity

April 19, 2008

A larger-than-life and vivid inaugural ceremony signalled the start of the lucrative DLF Indian Premier League… When the match actually started, it was a one-of-its-kind experience to see all those great players belonging to a different country playing as a team!!

It was a gripping moment when the Kolkata Knight Riders were all set for the duel with Banglaore Royal Challengers. The fun part is all good, but does IPL divide India into groups?!! I couldn’t really decide whether I should support Kolkata or Bangalore. They all belong to our country.

When there is the match between India and Australia, everyone unanimously supports India; but isn’t IPl splitting India into various groups who support different teams. the video below shows how..

Wouldn’t it have been better if the team name would have been like “Knight Riders” instead of Kolkata Knight Riders” or “Royal challengers” in place of “Bangalore Royal challengers“. That would give the opportunity to support a team based on their performance or the players rather than places!!

God save India from this over hyped stuff.

  3. Hello Mr. Ravi,

Well I dont think so havin name of the team on places really divide INDIA into groups. We have been playin national games since so many years and many states have been participatin in tht, but tht doesnt mean that national games have been dividin INDIA into groups.

Well if the place name is attached u will b more inclined to tht team, the excitement will be on higher level, and there is no harm in that.

That would give the opportunity to support a team based on their performance or the players rather than places

It is entirely depended on you wheter you want to support a team on place or performance, you have complete freedom on that. If your comment is logically correct then even on International platforms you dont have to name the team on the bases of country it comes from, cause we have to support a team on its performance not place.

    Have a nice day….

  4. @viahal

    Thanks for ur views.

its not just another game with states participating.. there are international players who’ve got nothing to do with the states here

what irks me more is the publicity and hype created around it.. [u must have seen see ipl ads]

and as far as the freedom is concerned, I agree one is free to support on any basis he likes..

the point here I am trying to make is, when there are many international players in the team, it doesn’t sound logical to name it based on places.

  5. @ravi,

After all the IPL matches are played for making money…

International players are been invited to make the game more glamorous as well to increase the quality of the game. If only local players were there u wudnt see a score of more than 150 posted in a match.

Even they hve cheerleaders in the game, technically they dont have ne role in the game but as I said b4 to increase the glamour all this parameters play an important role.

And as I said b4 places name are attached to increase the affinity of a person to that team.
If the team name was just Knight riders , the probability will b less tht a kolkatian wud able to find himself attached to tht time, but puttin a name kolkatta knight riders, kolkatians can find a reason to cheer for that team.

All these are just to increase the viewership of the match after all makin money is important….

    Hve a nice day
