I am still trying to figure out the wisdom of the phrase. Is it just another knock on the ability of the teachers or are we missing something between the lines!!
Is it possible to know the real world problems and ways to tackle it without getting your hands dirty with it?!! Knowledge is power. Agreed, but what about harnessing that power. Does it require different skillsets?!!
The problem with schooling is, it teaches us how to be good with words, not necessarily, with work.. Life’s not a show which can be finished within 3 hours, so why judge on the basis of those 3 hours specially when those on the other side of the system (employers here) don’t even care about it. All they are interested in, is the profit we can make them by adding our skills to the existing ones…
I still remember being asked “are there things which don’t apply to real life as they teach in school?” and without giving much time to dwell upon it, I heard, “we don’t directly apply what we study, it requires modifying the knowledge according to the needs…”
There are counter-views saying that the purpose of education is to equip a person with the required knowledge so they can apply it to particular situation themselves… but how can we expect a person who is so naive to the real world, to equip us with the required skills…
Its like asking for the tips about how to make money from shares from someone who, himself, never tried it!!
